Course Name: Make it, Play it: Tiny Worlds
This course explores domesticity, memory, and intimate scale through the fabrication of dollhouses and their translation into interactive digital environments. Students will build dollhouse structures, personalize them through decoration and design, document them using 3D scanning, then code them as explorable interactive digital worlds using Godot. The course examines how our choices in creating “home”, both physical and virtual, reveal personal narratives about belonging, memory, and identity.
Winter Session Course 2025

Course Name: From Scrap to Scene
This workshop introduces students to the Supershop’s laser cutter and CNC machine as tools for building sets, props, and replacement parts that can serve a range of art practices. Students will learn to conceptualize an object for storytelling, create rough mock-ups with accessible materials, prepare digital files for cutting, and execute a test cut. Prior knowledge of technical skills is not required.
Students work with found, scrap, and leftover materials for mock-ups, transforming what might otherwise be discarded into designed objects, reflecting the theme ‘gleaning’.
Through the works of Jirí Trnka, Yuri Norstein, Terry Gilliam, and others, we will discuss how cut-outs, silhouettes, and shaped props influence rhythm and storytelling, offering inspiration for students’ own designs. With screenings, discussions, and hands-on projects, students will consider how choices of material, scale, and design shape the emotional and conceptual weight of a piece. Scale, shape, and texture will be examined not only as functional concerns, but also as ways to evoke atmosphere, gesture, and character.
